Miss Diaspora is a Romanian beauty pageant that is held annually for young Romanian girls who no longer live in Romania, and therefore form the Romanian diaspora. There is an initial pageant held in the country the girls live in, in my case Canada. If the title is won at this pageant, then the contestant goes on to compete in Romania. It is a three week event, in which we the girls are prepared. We take dance lessons, walking lessons, speech lessons, we learn how to hold ourselves, how to get up and how to present ourselves to the members of the jury. We have the top dancers of Romania teaching us, and Miss Romania herself giving us lessons on diction and elegance. The last night we compete in the pageant, together with a host of artists who entertain the night.
In 2009 I was crowned Miss Diaspora 2009 and I also took home the public popularity prize.
Below is a gallery of photos from the event, including the group and preparation photos, the jury afternoon, and the night of the actual ceremony. The video below is an informal presentation of all of the girls who participated in the pageant.
